Formation
The formation of the first Women’s Fellowship in Asante and among the first in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana began in Kumasi in the year 1937 through the able leadership of Mrs. Felicia Afriyie (Mother) and a host of others including Mrs. Jemima Ampofo, Madam Yaa Kra,and Madam Mary Pokuaa. The idea was to expose its members to Bible studies, needle work, and evangelism. The fellowship was formally inaugurated in 1939 by Rev. M.A. Obeng, the then District Minister.
Today the Fellowship has widened its foci to include home management, health issues, marriage counseling, financial management as well as child training and programs based on the scheme of work received annually from the National level.
Activities
Through evangelism, the Fellowship has worked tirelessly to reach out to many congregations in the Asante and Brong Ahafo regions where many branches have been opened.
Also, the Fellowship has established a nursery school which has now become a great asset to the church and the group. The Fellowship has been visiting the aged and needy in the Congregation with gifts in kind or cash. Orphanages are also visited where donations in cash or kind are presented in fulfillment of the command of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Fellowship also in collaboration with the Church Choir has set-up a Wafer Production Project.
The Fellowship has recently bought a Coaster bus to support the evangelism activities of the congregation and also as an investment venture.
Membership
Currently, the Fellowship has a membership of two hundred and fifty. This figure would have been larger had all women in the group joined the fold. That notwithstanding, the Fellowship aims to double its membership in the very near future. The Fellowship has nine executive members with eight group leaders and assistants who help in its management.
Meeting Days
The Fellowship meets every Wednesday inside the main church from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
