Formation
In the year 1982 when some executives of the YPG at Ramseyer Memorial congregation were assigned to help the children service teachers’ Samuel Boateng, Theophilos Opoku, Emmanuel Ekuban, Mr. Bannerman among others, they realized that some of the young boys and girls were not interested in the activities of the children service since they considered themselves no longer as children.
Thus, after several consultations with the session and other stakeholders in the church, the JY was inaugurated in 1984 at the Regional Conference held at the Ramseyer Memorial Congregation, Kumasi by Mrs. Gladys Ohene Ampofo, the then National President of YPG as the first “J.Y” in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to serve as the transition between childhood and young adulthood.
Activities
The Junior Y over the years have organizing programmes that are aimed at touching the very core of the youth in the church. Periodically, the group organizes educational trips and excursions to open up members to the realities of the world. Also as part of its core values, bible studies and quizzers as well as career training programmes are organized to help members identify themselves rightly with the right job and course are the Senior High Schools.
Membership
The group is open to all members of the church between the ages of 12 and 18. Currently, it estimated that the Ramseyer Junior Y has a total population of 150members made up of 65males and 85 females governed by fourteen member teaching staff headed by Mr. Isaac Ofori.
Meeting Days
The Ramseyer Junior Y meets every Sundays between the hours of 7:00-11:00am at the Ramseyer Presby Junior High School, Adum-Kumasi.
